LegislativeMonitors legislation pertaining to equine industry issues at the state level and works with the American Horse Council to coordinate formal legislative efforts at the state and federal levels. Members distribute information thru communication pieces and articles in the Courier newsletter, host activities for legislators and participate in activities to strengthen HCI's position as the leader in Illinois Horse Industry. Equine Health & Well BeingReviews and makes recommendations and reports to the membership on equine health issues. Trails, Zoning and Land UseResponds to member requests for information on land use issues, and develops position statements on zoning ordinances affecting horse ownership and access to public lands. MembershipPlans and implements membership drive and new member information and orientation, Reviews proposals for new member services, makes recommendations to the board and works with association staff to implement and monitor member services. EducationAdvises the board on equine education issues and determines the direction for all HCI educational programming, develops seminars and administers the HCI scholarship program. RacingMonitors all aspects of horse racing and its impact on the equine industry in Illinois. Animal Welfare ResponseStrives to provide factual information and dispel rumors concerning the general welfare and treatment of equine throughout the state. Advises the board of activities by animal welfare groups and organizations that may affect equine.
