Stable Owners and Stable Managers Workshop

University of Illinois Extension, Kankakee County, presents Stable Owners and Stable Managers Workshop with Yvonne Ocrant, attorney and specialist in equine law; Ellen Phillips, Crops Systems Extension Educator;Barbara Curry, Insurance Agent and James Theuri, Ag & Natural Resources Extension Educator.

Illinois is home to many horse owners and riders, and the horse industry has a significant impact on the state's economy. As with any industry, there are risks associated with doing business. What has the state done to protect or limit liability to horse owners and stable managers who have been involved in horse mishaps? The Illinois Equine Activity Liability Act (EALA) is intended to limit the civil liability of persons participating in equine activities in Illinois. What does the Act state and what are its limitations? How can one manage risks?

This workshop will be held at Smith Horse Company, 3728 N. 5000 W Road, Kankakee, IL 6090. It will be held on March 14, 2009. There is a $20 fee and pre-registration is required by March 6, 2009.
